How To Record Commercial Cattle Into Digital Beef
On 11/20/2017 the AWA published a tutorial with instructions on how to record commercial cattle (non-Wagyu) into the Digital Beef system. This is useful if the AWA member desires to manage its entire herd of both Wagyu and non-Wagyu animals in Digital Beef, and provides for linkage of embryo calves to non-Wagyu recipient cows. It also allows initial breedings of Wagyu to non-Wagyu (“F1” or 50% Wagyu animals) to show both the Wagyu parent as well as the non-Wagyu parent on the pedigree. If the non-Wagyu animal is registered with another breed association (such as the case with a registered Angus cow, for instance), if the member sends a copy of the non-Wagyu animal registration certificate to the AWA with a request, the pedigree will be added to Digital Beef so that the pedigree shows up for the non-Wagyu “base” animal in the F1 Wagyu animal’s pedigree. By knowing the breed of an initial “non-Wagyu” animal in a percentage Wagyu animal’s pedigree, EPDs can in the future show the performance variances of various breeds when crossed with Wagyu. See the attached instructional tutorial.
